Managed IT for
Architecture, Engineering
& Construction
Schema Networks has supported AEC firms for 25 years. We understand the file sizes, the software stack, the deadline pressure, and the field-to-office connectivity challenges that come with this industry.
Southern California-based with clients across the country and internationally. We are an authorized Egnyte reseller, have managed a large number of file migrations for AEC firms, and work with Autodesk, Bluebeam, Newforma, Azure, and visualization tools as part of our day-to-day work.
What We Deal With in AEC Environments
Large File Workflows
Revit models with many linked files, large Navisworks federations, point clouds, and render assets put real demands on storage I/O and network throughput.
Software Sensitivity
Autodesk products, rendering engines, and collaboration tools are particular about network paths, licensing servers, and system configuration. Small misconfigurations cause real problems.
Multi-Location Teams
Design staff in the office, consultants working remotely, and field crews on site — all needing access to current project files without version conflicts.
Deadline-Driven Schedules
IT problems don't pause for permit submittals or presentation deadlines. We try to catch issues before they become emergencies rather than waiting for calls.
BIM & CAD Infrastructure
Infrastructure Designed Around How AEC Software Actually Behaves
Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Navisworks have specific requirements around storage latency, network paths, and licensing. We don't learn this on your time — we've been configuring these environments for years and know where the common problems come from.
That includes proper shared storage sizing, network configuration for worksharing environments, WAN considerations for multi-office access to Central Models, and Autodesk licensing server setup and maintenance.
Shared storage sizing and configuration for concurrent Revit sessions
LAN switching recommendations based on actual workload, not guesswork
WAN and SD-WAN configuration for multi-office Revit Central Model access
Network segmentation to keep render traffic separate from design traffic
Autodesk license server setup, maintenance, and subscription management
Storage monitoring with alerts before capacity or performance issues affect work
A common situation we help with
“Revit sync is slow and occasionally drops when staff work from our second office.”
This is usually a combination of network latency between sites, storage I/O on the Central Model host, and sometimes Revit configuration. We diagnose the actual bottleneck rather than assuming an answer, then address it specifically — whether that's WAN optimization, storage changes, or moving the Central Model to a better-connected location.
What We Don't Do
We don't sell you hardware or services you don't need to hit a ticket average. If your storage is adequate and the problem is Revit configuration, we'll tell you. If upgrading your switch won't help your specific bottleneck, we won't recommend it.
Egnyte for AEC Firms
We're an authorized Egnyte reseller and have completed a significant number of migrations for AEC firms — from legacy NAS, SharePoint, Box, Dropbox, and plain network drives. We know what the AEC-specific gotchas look like and how to handle them.
Why AEC Firms Use Egnyte
Large File Handling
Egnyte is designed to handle large files reliably. It doesn't have the file-size friction that general consumer file-sharing tools tend to have.
Revit Worksharing Compatibility
With correct configuration, Egnyte works with Revit Central Model workflows. This requires specific setup — we've done it enough times to get it right.
Granular Permissions
Project-level folder permissions that match how AEC firms actually organize work — by project, phase, and external consultant access.
Field Offline Access
Egnyte Connect allows field staff to sync project folders to their devices. If connectivity on site is unreliable, files are already local.
Audit Trail
Version history and access logs are useful for project documentation, e-discovery, and tracking who changed what on a shared file.

How We Approach Migrations
Migrations have risks — mostly around permissions, application file paths, and user disruption. Our process is designed to surface those problems before cutover, not after.
Discovery
We inventory your existing shares, permissions, and file paths — including Revit project files, linked families, and any application-specific folder structures.
Permission Mapping
Your current folder ACLs are mapped to Egnyte's group and folder model before anything moves. We walk you through the structure and get sign-off.
Pilot
One project team migrates first. We validate Revit worksharing, Bluebeam Studio links, and Navisworks paths work correctly before the rest of the firm moves.
Migration
Files transfer with checksums verified on both ends. We compare file counts and sizes before declaring the migration complete.
Cutover
Drive mappings and DNS updates happen in a scheduled window. We stay available during and after cutover to resolve any issues.
Stabilization
We monitor sync health and resolve any path issues that surface in the days following migration. Most issues, when they occur, show up in the first week.
Microsoft Azure
Azure for AEC Environments
We manage Azure environments for AEC firms and understand the specific services relevant to design and construction workloads — remote desktop for CAD users, cloud storage for project files, identity management, and disaster recovery.
Whether your firm is considering moving off physical servers, supporting remote staff, or just wants its Microsoft licensing and cloud costs to make sense, we can help with an honest assessment of what Azure does and doesn't solve for you.
Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) configuration for remote CAD/BIM access
Azure NetApp Files for project file storage with low-latency access
Entra ID (Azure AD) for single sign-on across Autodesk, Egnyte, and Bluebeam
Azure Site Recovery planning for project server disaster recovery
Hybrid identity and Conditional Access policy configuration
Cloud cost review and resource tagging — so your Azure bill is understandable
Azure Virtual Desktop for Remote CAD
AVD can deliver Revit and AutoCAD sessions to remote staff without shipping workstations. The experience depends heavily on session host sizing, network quality, and the specific Autodesk version. We configure and test these environments properly rather than standing them up and hoping for the best.
Cloud Rendering
Azure offers GPU virtual machines that can be used for rendering. Whether this is a practical option for your firm depends on your render volume, licensing model, and workflow. We can help you evaluate it honestly — cloud rendering isn't the right answer for every firm.
A Note on Cloud vs. On-Prem
Cloud isn't automatically better, and on-premises isn't automatically cheaper long-term. The right answer depends on your firm's size, location count, staff distribution, and workload. We'll give you our honest read rather than defaulting to whatever we make more margin on.
Visualization & Rendering
Support for Visualization Workloads
We support firms that use Lumion, Enscape, V-Ray, Blender, and similar tools — maintaining the workstations, network, and shared storage these workflows depend on.
Render Workstation Setup
We configure and maintain GPU workstations for Lumion, Enscape, V-Ray, and Blender — including driver management, VRAM considerations, and hardware recommendations when it's time to upgrade.
Render Node Networks
For firms running distributed rendering with Deadline or Backburner, we configure the network infrastructure and shared storage so render nodes can access assets reliably.
Cloud Rendering Options
We can help you evaluate Azure GPU virtual machines for rendering workloads. Whether it makes sense for your firm depends on your volume and workflow — we'll give you an honest assessment, not a sales pitch.
Network for Heavy Workloads
Large file transfers between workstations and shared storage benefit from properly sized switching and cabling. We assess your current network and recommend upgrades only where the bottleneck actually exists.

Field-to-Office Connectivity
Keeping Field and Office Teams on the Same Page
Field crews have different IT needs than office staff. Connectivity is less reliable, devices take more abuse, and the software in use is often different. We support both sides of that divide.
For firms with job site offices, trailers, or field-heavy workflows, we set up and maintain the connectivity and document sync infrastructure that keeps everyone working from current information.
Job Site Connectivity
LTE/5G routers with failover and site-to-site VPN for field offices and trailers. Egnyte offline sync so crews have documents even when connectivity is inconsistent.
BIM-to-Field Workflows
We help connect Autodesk Construction Cloud and BIM 360 field workflows to your project management tools — reducing manual re-entry and version confusion.
Mobile Device Management
Microsoft Intune for iOS and Android devices used in the field — app deployment, security policy, and remote wipe without requiring devices to come back to the office.
Document Sync
Egnyte Connect ensures that markups and uploads from the field are visible in the office. We configure and maintain the sync clients on all devices.
